Art Imitates Life Imitates Epidemiology
The global Map of Health as displayed by the Royal Science Society summer exhibition in London. Says their website:
"When seen through the microscope, the tissues that form our organs and body parts can be stunningly beautiful, with all the complex structures that determine and enable their function forming beguiling, literally organic, patterns."
Pretty, but also sobering. The tissues that represent each country reflect the leading cause of death in each region. Adipose tissue in North America, pulmonary in South America, neurodegenerative diseases in the EU (due to an aging population or so they say) and so on.
